Few of my very old works, from late '99 onwards...

Adrift - a study of the original

All these works were on display in my previous web gallery, except Adrift. But I do not have an image of the original (Oil on canvas, 36" x 36") at present.

You may find these works too emotionally infused for everyones' liking. I do not mean this statement as some kind of an explanantion, or excuse, or even apology. Emotions, as far as I am concerned, are better expressed than withheld. But that is not the issue. I mean it so as to illustrate a trend in my new career in painting.

It wasn't easy coming to terms with what my inner soul really craved for. When I finally decided to mothball(for keeps) my white-coat, throw "caution" to the winds, give up an otherwise economically rewarding profession to earnestly pursue painting, and painting alone, things happened inside me, Turmoils far beyond my immediate comprehension. It was like a storm, raging outside for sometime, which jumped into the room with all its fury when a window suddenly burst open.

These works happened during that storm, and looking back I can see that even if they are emotionally super-charged, at least they are true and sincere. I found myself bang in the middle of an existentialist crisis. Even though "outside" events, like those in "The Fence", or "The Nun" nudged me from time to time, this was largely a lonely journey. I was magnificiently supported by my family throughout that tumultous period, something I will never be able reciprocate to the fullest extent. And then there was also one difficult "friend" whom I have never ever met in person...

Thank you for allowing me to share those significamt moments of my re-birth.

BEFORE I CHOSE TO BE A PAINTER...
I discovered these long forgotten pictures while undertaking
a major rearrangement of my room. The following 5 were done
in India, a little before my departure for England. The last 2 were
scribbled on kitchen paper towels while I was busy working as SHO
(Senior House Officer) at St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, England.
